First Half - Colts had a bad start when the defence failed to clear a shot and Lions went 1-0 up within 2 minutes. Shortly after that, Lions almost scored again, but fortunately for Colts, the shot was off target. However, after this shaky start, Colts picked up the pace of their game and the action moved up to their end, resulting in a rolling goal by Ryan Morrisey, originating from a direct free kick. Following a series of strong headers in midfield, Joe Clarke shot hard, but Lions keeper held onto the ball. Colts then displayed a complete lack of cohesion, which allowed Lions to score again. Lesson learnt, Colts persistency saw them win through again. Jonathan Stamp did a great tackle, followed by one of Josh Hazelwood’s long throws, sustained activity in midfield, and then Stuart Geeves hit a super strike into the back of the net. All 4 defenders continually cleared the ball, and Ryan almost scored again before the half-time whistle. Play stopped whilst the ball was retrieved from a nearby garden! 2-2 half time.
Second Half - Both teams battled with the intention of collecting the 3 points. Tension grew when Colts were denied a clear penalty opportunity early in the second half. New boy Conal O’Hara made some good runs and was unlucky not to get the ball across to the strikers. The defence all blocked well in the second half, but Lee Davenport was particularly strong, putting in some excellent tackles. Joe Clarke was winded, but was soon back on his feet! Colts then wasted a free kick by all moving at once – off side! At the end, Colts missed 3 clear opportunities to score, delivering miskicks, and with 3 minutes remaining, Lions made a break, but Leo Bates, Colts new keeper, had grown in confidence and produced an important save to keep his team in the match. FINAL SCORE 2-2.
Scorers: Ryan Morrisey and Stuart Geeves
Man of the Match: Lee Davenport
Played: Leo Bates, Lee Davenport, Joshua Hazelwood (Captain), Stefan Sime, Ben Wells, David Powley (sub 2nd Scott Hayes), Steven Sutcliffe (sub 2nd half Conal O’Hara), Joe Clarke, Jonathan Stamp, Ryan Morrisey, Stuart Geeves
Not Played: Matt Tring and James Capon
Post Mortem: This was a disappointing result because although the teams were evenly matched, Colts should have won this game, especially given their recent performances in the friendlies and Aylesford tournament. Put simply, Colts cannot afford to allow in soft goals and they must score when the chances are presented to them. The defence started badly then collected themselves; the midfield had been sloppy then pulled together; the strikers scored in the first half, but could not hit the net in the second half. Colts must work together as a team, with 100% effort from everyone. The team needs to start winning right from the beginning and play to their proven potential. |

First Half – Colts suffered a slow start whereas Lotus attacked the goal from the outset and were 0-1 up within 3 minutes. Colts then missed a chance to score when there was no one to pick up the loose ball dropped by the Lotus goalie. Lotus then hit the post twice and headed one shot over the bar as Colts simply watched the ball! However, Scott Hayes then made a good run and there were a couple of breaks, but unfortunately, no goals for Colts. Lotus had a free kick, which was cleared by Ryan Morrissey. There was activity both ends and both Scott and Ryan had a good half, but equally, there were too many missed opportunities. With 5 minutes to the break, Lotus made it 0-2. Leo Bates then produced a great save at the very end of the first half.
Second Half – Lotus attacked immediately as Colts made it too easy for them. Chances occurred, but again they were wasted. However, there was more activity created by Colts during this half and all 4 defenders produced some good defensive clearances. James Capon too in midfield did some excellent runs and interceptions, putting Lotus under pressure. However, there was some erratic play by most of the team and Lotus proved to be faster and stronger than Colts. Then spirits lifted as Jonathan Stamp scored, only to find that the goal was called off side. Lotus then attacked quickly and made it 0-3, followed by 0-4. Play was stopped for a few minutes because Joe Clarke took a full whack in the face by a close ball. Joe had to come off due to a badly bleeding mouth, and Stuart Geeves took his place. Colts continued to have bouts of battling, but also periods of being less hungry for the ball. Lotus pushed continually and took advantage of a complete muddle near the goal and scored 0-5, and then again 0-6 just before the final whistle. FINAL SCORE 0-6.
Man of the Match: James Capon
Played: Leo Bates, Lee Davenport, Joshua Hazelwood (Captain), Stefan Sime, Ben Wells, Joe Clarke, Ryan Morrisey, Stuart Geeves (sub 2nd half Jonathan Stamp), Scott Hayes (sub 2nd half David Powley), Conal O’Hara (sub 2nd half Steven Sutcliffe), James Capon
Not Available: Matt Tring
Post Mortem: Colts knew this would be a hard game as Lotus are a fast team, but the heavy scoreline was disappointing because Colts have proved over the summer that they can play better than this. There was no shape to their play and at times, they played in a gaggle. Each time, Colts cleared the ball, it was given away as there is a tendency to either take too much time, or get rid of the ball too quickly. Each player must battle hard and get to the ball first to prevent these large defeats. To win, everyone must give maximum effort. If it had not been for Leo’s saves, the scoreline could have been in double figures. However, there was some good football. Each player produced some notable play, but in particular, James, in his first game, played in his position and produced some quality work. Special mention to Joe Clarke who also put in good effort and suffered an injured mouth and face as a result! Also Ryan Morrissey who played with a cut head due to a bike accident. Next week, Colts must stop chasing shadows, be more positive in their play, and put in 100% effort for the full 70 minutes.

First Half – Although Loose only fielded 10 men, the game started equally, with action both ends. An early chance by Colts was saved by the Lions keeper; in turn, a defensive error by Colts was saved by keeper Leo Bates. Then Colts won a corner and as the ball came in, Matt Tring was very unlucky as his shot hit the crossbar and curled back out of the goal. Unfortunately, Lions strode straight down their end, and a defensive split and keeper error led to them going 0-1 up with a soft goal. There followed a period when Colts then missed several chances to score and almost went behind again as they failed to play to the whistle. Loose still kept aiming for goal. Colts continually gave the ball away and the defence worked overtime to keep the ball out of the penalty area, with the 4 defenders clearing shots off the line and having to produce big kicks out for the midfield to collect. Colts often could not reach the ball first from the goal kicks. Then their luck changed when Scott Hayes produced a good run and rolled the ball hard towards the goal, and Jonathan Stamp ensured it went in. 1-1 on half time.
Second Half – Both teams attacked from the outset and Colts started to mount the pressure. Ryan Morrissey won a lot of balls in midfield and battled to gain possession, with some solid interceptions and tackles. Sub Steven Sutcliffe soon fired a hard shot towards goal, which went slightly wide of the post. Joe Clarke got sandwiched several times as he battled for the ball, but there often remained a large hole in the midfield and little connection between Colts players. Meanwhile, Loose kept getting closer and pressurising and Colts failed to convert several good chances, and then Lions were awarded a penalty in the last 2 minutes, and scored. Game over. FINAL SCORE 1-2.
Man of the Match: Ryan Morrissey
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain) (injured foot sub 2nd half James Capon), Joe Clarke, Stefan Sime, Leo Bates, Ben Wells, Lee Davenport, Ryan Morrissey, Stuart Geeves (sub 1st half Jonathan Stamp), James Capon (sub 2nd half Conal O’Hara), Scott Hayes (sub 2nd half Stuart Geeves), Matt Tring (sub 2nd half Steven Sutcliffe), Steven Sutcliffe (sub 2nd half Scott Hayes)

Post Mortem – Everyone was extremely disappointed at another game lost, which Colts should have won. The team agreed that whilst they had suffered a late penalty award, the game was actually lost by missing so many clear chances ie the penalty should not have affected the overall result. What made it worse was that Loose only had 9 and then 10 players. The boys must transfer what they learn at training onto the match pitch. Once again, they were the better team and although each player produced some good individual football, they still did not score when chances presented; they gave the ball away too much; they failed to gel as a team; and they did not battle hard enough. There seems to be little passion displayed. To win, every player must give 100% all the time. Again, this was not the case today. There was one person on the pitch who did consistently battle hard and that was the Man of the Match. The team agreed that they must lift their game and beat these teams because they are more than capable of doing so. |

First Half – Colts made an excellent start by attacking the ball straightaway as they took advantage of a muddle in the BGC goal mouth and Jonathan Stamp made it 1-0 within 2 minutes (after Stuart Geeves and David Powley had contributed as well in an attempt to reach the target). However, BCG retaliated quickly and levelled at 1-1. Action went end to end, with Lee Davenport intercepting strongly and then Stuart found the net to make it 2-1. Colts strikers took their chances as the whole team worked together to mount their attacks. Stefan Sime cleared the ball hard from Colts half, Stuart flicked it through to Jonathan who ran on and scored again. 3-1. Excitement mounted. Suddenly, BGC scored again when Colts became static and did not chase the ball back. 3-2. However, soon after, Stuart lobbed the ball into the goal 4-2. Positive play continued with James Capon and David making some strong runs and interceptions and then Jonathan completed his hat-trick to make it 5-2. Joe Clarke and Ryan Morrissey made some good challenges and headers in midfield.
Second Half - Colts missed a chance straightaway, but Josh Hazelwood headed out BGC effort. Stefan, Josh, Ben and Steven had the area well covered with good defending from all 4. BCG suddenly sprung an attack, which was thwarted by a great save from keeper Leo. Another goal came as Leo produced an excellent goal kick, which was followed through to super sub Scott Hayes who unleashed a successful lob shot. 6-2. Leo was called upon again when he had to make a scramble save for a loose shot from BGC. Matt and Conal proved themselves able interceptors in midfield and excellent team play led to Scott powering through and in. 7-2. Within a minute, Lee (in his temporary striker position) made it 8-2. Scott almost made it no 9, but the BGC keeper saved the shot. BCG suddenly attacked, but as soon as they mounted their attacks, Stefan cleared it, then Ben, then Josh and then Steven. There was no way through for BGC as Leo also came out of his goal several times to collect the ball. To complete the goal feast for Colts, Scott collected his hat trick. FINAL SCORE 9-2.
Man of the Match: Stefan Sime
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), Ryan Morrissey (sub 2nd half Jonathan Stamp), Stuart Geeves (sub 2nd half Lee Davenport), Ben Wells, Stefan Sime, Leo Bates, Joe Clarke, Lee Davenport (injured knee 1st half sub Steven Sutcliffe), James Capon (2nd half sub Matt Tring), David Powley (2nd half sub Conal O’Hara), Jonathan Stamp (2nd half sub Scott Hayes)
Post Mortem – Today’s display was the best football that this team has ever played and this match showed what the boys are capable of achieving. This was total football – passing the ball, covering each other, making space, calling out, the whole package. They worked as a team. The back 4 covered each other and continually cleared the ball out to the midfield who battled hard and won the ball and then the strikers pushed up all the time. When the ball did get through, Leo saved the shots. This is what should happen every week. No one wasted the ball and all opportunities were taken. The substitutes also performed well and slotted straight into position. Look at the difference! A victory and a goal feast. It was very difficult to choose a MOM, but after deliberation, the trophy this week went to a player who was admonished last week and who took on board the advice given to produce an outstanding performance today – Stefan. Plus a round of applause for everyone as there were a total of 15 MOMs today. Well done Stefan. Well done team. Keep it up Colts! |

Comment - This match suffered a delayed start due to necessary relocation to Oldborough Manor. Both managers agreed that the pitch at Cornwallis was totally inadequate to play on.
First Half – Colts suffered the worst possible start: 4 goals conceded within the first 10 minutes caused by a catalogue of errors by all sections of the team! Colts finally started to battle after this serious wake up call, but they faced a huge task to get themselves back into the game. The defence failed to clear the ball, the midfield became static, the strikers missed chances and tackles were minimal. In contrast, Lions fought for everything. However, Leo produced a fine save. Then Lions almost made it 0-5, but the goal was disallowed because of a foul on our goalie. Throughout this half, Colts modus operandi was to continually give away the ball to Lions who were by far the stronger and dominant team.
Second Half – Lions continued their attacking play and Colts had to repeatedly defend. Leo again came out of his goal to divert a well struck shot. Lions had another goal disallowed (offside). However, Colts subs made an immediate impact, which meant that Ryan was no longer the lone persistent battler in midfield. James was unlucky as his shot went across the goal mouth. Colts alternated between fighting for the ball and just watching it. Then came the turning point: a handball was given and the penalty was awarded to Colts. Stuart stepped up and blasted the ball into the back of the net. 1-4. At last! This goal boosted the team’s confidence and Colts began winning corners and play started to level out. Ryan sent a lovely ball through, but sadly, no one could get their head onto it. Defensive and keeper errors gave Lions another goal 1-5 which was quickly cancelled out when Lions also scored an own goal 2-5. Shortly afterwards, Ryan made it 3-5 with a super shot from a corner. Colts played good football this half, but unfortunately, could not make up the early large deficit. FINAL SCORE: 3-5.
Man of the Match: Ryan Morrissey
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), Ryan Morrissey ,Stefan Sime, Lee Davenport, Ben Wells, Leo Bates, Steven Sutcliffe, Jonathan Stamp, Scott Hayes (sub 1st half Stuart Geeves), Joe Clarke (sub 2nd half Conal O’Hara), Matt Tring (sub 2nd half James Capon), Stuart Geeves (sub 2nd half David Powley)
Post Mortem: This game was lost in the first 10 minutes when Colts conceded 4 goals. Heads went down, attitudes turned negative, play became static, anticipation deserted everybody, and the ball was continually handed to Lions. Colts must pass the ball positively and again each player must put in maximum effort all the time. Last week, this team proved it can play good football. Today, the majority drifted in/out the game with alarming inconsistency and the scoreline bears this fact out. Colts should have won this game. Everyone must be positive and turn up on Sunday morning ready to win matches from kick-off. It was felt that one player did give his all today for the entire match so today’s MOM is Ryan Morrissey. |

Pre-Match Note: Leo Bates (goalie) suffered a bad knee injury in training on 15 October. As he slid to save a shot, he tore the area around his knee cap. He was taken to hospital, where he was detained for several hours and received treatment for shock and 11 stitches in the wound. He will be unable to play for at least a month. Everyone at Coxheath Colts Under 13s wishes Leo a speedy recovery, and a card is on its way to our brave goalie.
Attendance: 22
First Half – Steven went in goal and several team members played in different positions today. From the start, Colts attacked the ball, produced some good play and endeavoured to put the tackles in. Matt, Joe, and Ryan fought in the centre to dominate play, and David made some strong runs up front. However, Hollingbourne went 0-1 up with a big kick and lob into the goal, despite Steven’s sterling effort to stop the shot. Although Colts then continued to play well and kept their heads up, opportunities were squandered as Ryan, Scott and Stuart all got close, but not on target. Two subs were made - David came off with an injured foot - and the team reshuffled position, with Lee making his presence known straightaway. Play continued on an even keel and before long, Colts got rewarded for their persistence as Jonathan made it 1-1. Stuart kept getting closer and finally scored 2-1. The team managed to continue to connect with each other and played with confidence.
Second half – Colts maintained the pressure and most of the play was their end. Stuart almost grabbed another goal on the volley, but unfortunately, his shot caught Joe hard in the face. There was no goal, but everyone was relieved that, although he had to be substituted, Joe was fine after some ‘time out’. James got ‘stuck in’ then Jonathan added his name to the list of ‘near misses’ in this half. Good clearances, from Josh and Ben, with Stefan and Conal covering their respective sides, and strong balls through the midfield, allowed the attackers to keep pumping the ball towards goal. Hollingbourne had a goal disallowed due to pushing. Colts kept producing chances and they dominated play most of the time, but they could not find the net. Tension really built up at the end of the match with just one minute to go. Ben, in particular, produced strong kicks to keep Hollingbourne at bay as Colts battled on to maintain their slender lead. Then suddenly, concentration lapsed, the defence were caught out and Hollingbourne had levelled 2-2, with barely 15 seconds to go! There was precious little time to pull another goal back. FINAL SCORE: 2-2.
Man of the Match: Ben Wells
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), Ryan Morrissey, Stefan Sime, Ben Wells, Steven Sutcliffe, Conal O’Hara, Scott Hayes (sub 2nd half Joe Clarke), Joe Clarke (sub 2nd half James Capon), Matt Tring (sub 1st half Jonathan Stamp), Stuart Geeves, David Powley (sub 1st half Lee Davenport)
Not Available: Leo Bates (injured)
Post Mortem: Everyone played with much more commitment and industry, but the main problem was getting the ball into the back of the net. There were at least 9 clear opportunities to score and had all, or some, of those potential goals gone in, the costly error at the end would not have affected the result. Colts were the architects of their own downfall and should have collected 3 points today. All 14 players performed well, but again we lost. The positives are that the team collected one point and played good football; equally, we were the better team and should have won. So even though, the boys all played well, everyone felt gutted as they had allowed themselves to be mugged at the end. MOM today is Ben Wells who gave an all round solid performance in central defence. |

First Half – Colts only had 10 players this week so this match was always going to be an uphill struggle. The game started evenly, with active play both ends. Steven made some brave saves, but as he produced another fine save off the feet of the opposition, he injured his hand. Colts were then unfortunate to go 1-0 down and suffered another scare as the ball hit the crossbar. Colts then produced a good build up in midfield, but David found himself unlucky as his shot sailed over the top of the bar. Lee and Ryan battled for the ball, but for most of the time, the team were in statue mode and this led to WK running through and scoring 2-0 and then 3-0 after mistakes in all areas of play by Colts. However, on half time, David pulled one back to make it 3-1.
Second Half – Steven switched to striker due to his hand injury and as there was no other goalie available, Ben volunteered to go in goal. WK took advantage and quickly scored. 4-1. However, Ben gained in confidence and produced some good saves and big goal kicks, backed up by the defence and Ryan. Ryan was particularly lively organising the midfield. There were several skirmishes in the WK goalmouth. Conal got some timely tackles in and Stefan cleared a shot from the line. Joe, Matt and Scott battled in midfield against the WK players, most of whom were bigger and heavier than them. Unfortunately though, Colts still lacked consistency in battling for the ball and this led to more activity in the WK half. The game also suffered from breaks in the flow of play when the ball had to be continually retrieved from the bushes surrounding the pitch. A further goal for WK followed after another goalmouth scramble. 5-1. Colts had a couple of opportunities, but the ball just would not go in. Another unlucky break for Colts occurred when WK scored yet again in quick succession. FINAL SCORE: 6-1.
Man of the Match: Ryan Morrissey
Played: Ryan Morrissey (Captain), Ben Wells, Steven Sutcliffe, Stefan Sime, Conal O’Hara, Scott Hayes, Joe Clarke, Matt Tring, David Powley, Lee Davenport
Not Available: Leo Bates (injured), Josh Hazelwood, James Capon, Stuart Geeves, Jonathan Stamp
Post Mortem – This game was always going to be hard with only 10 players and especially after Steven’s hand injury and no substitutes being available. However, again, there was not enough persistent battling for the ball, or chasing back, and there was a complete lack of anticipation as to where the ball would be played. This result is so frustrating as they can do better. Everyone needs to come back, move forward, stop wandering, concentrate and play in position. Also, it was noted that some players have a tendency to give up, which makes it harder for the others who are playing well. Central defender Ben performed well in goal. However, the MOM for today is Ryan who led the team and battled for the ball for the whole 70 minutes. |

First Half – the ball went straight into Roseacre’s half with the first kick, but Colts woke immediately to the danger and started battling. Two clear chances came for them to score within minutes, but the ball failed to go in and then when Colts did score, the goal was not given as it was not deemed to have crossed the line. However, the boys were much more positive from the outset, producing effective attacking play. Unfortunately, following a defensive error, Roseacre scored first 0-1, but Colts quickly responded with good attacking by Joe and then a super run by Scott, which led Stuart to score. 1-1. Good teamwork had paid off at last. There was some effective play at the end of the first half, with Ben and Josh producing strong clearances and covering; David running hard and coming close to scoring; Steven coming out of goal and making some brave saves and then Ryan, who had been his busy self in midfield, had a go at goal on the whistle, but his shot just missed the target.
Second Half – Colts knew they must clear the ball and get their tackles in to win the match, but again, clear scoring opportunities were squandered after several skirmishes in the goalmouth. Play alternated between ends as all the boys battled well for the ball and kept applying pressure. Conal and Matt made their presence known and Joe did a cracking header, but was denied a goal by the Roseacre keeper. Jonathan too came close, but the ball just ran too fast ahead of him for him to guide it into the goal. Stefan and Lee provided some good tackles and covering. Colts created so many chances, but no one could hit the back of the net. Then a mistake in midfield led to Roseacre taking their chance - 1-2. Colts continued to pass the ball into their end, but still no goal came, as they either missed, scrambled it, or the Roseacre keeper got there first. James proved adept at hassling, Steven produced another fine save when Roseacre broke free and Stefan played the ball down the wing well and managed to get back when required. Colts were so unlucky and frustration crept in at times as the Roseacre keeper kept saving his team. Then Roseacre scored again with a classic nutmeg. 1-3. The ball just would not fall right for Colts, despite their valiant efforts. FINAL SCORE: 1-3.
Man of the Match: Stefan Sime
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), Ryan Morrissey, Ben Wells (sub 2nd half Scott Hayes), Steven Sutcliffe, Stefan Sime, Jonathan Stamp, Scott Hayes (sub 2nd half Conal O’Hara), Joe Clarke (sub 2nd half Stuart Geeves), David Powley (sub 2nd half Matt Tring), Lee Davenport, Stuart Geeves (sub 2nd half James Capon)
Not Available: Leo Bates (injured)
Post Mortem: this was an excellent game as everyone played well. However, this team needs goals. We missed a dozen clear chances! Roseacre only had 4, but they scored 3 goals. The defenders defended well, the midfield kept battling, and Steven provided 2 fantastic saves and came out confidently, but the strikers must score. It is so frustrating that once again, we were the better team, yet we came away with 0 points. All 4 defenders played well, but the MOM this week is Stefan who produced good tackles, cleared the ball well and in particular, kept moving up and down the wing in support of the midfield. |

The two teams observed a Minute’s Silence before the game on this Remembrance Sunday.
First Half: Colts welcomed new player Joe Bartram in his first game with the team. Unfortunately, Sissinghurst went 1-0 up within minutes as our players were taken by surprise by the speed of their pace on the ball. Colts woke up and tried hard, with Scott and Jonathan making some good runs, but Colts continually had to defend as Sissinghurst attacked the goal. Sissinghurst scored a first-class second goal 2-0 and then followed with another 3-0. There was very little activity our end as Sissinghurst proved to be a very good, skilful and fast team, and Colts failed to get their tackles in and to accurately pass the ball, although it was pleasing to hear our boys calling each other at last.
Second Half: Colts went out with renewed determination. However, the ball went straight into Sissinghurst half, with little activity Colts end. Despite the efforts of Joe B and Joe C, it was soon 4-0 with another speedy goal. Lee put in some hard tackles and drove the ball forward; James, Conal and David got stuck in; and all the boys kept battling for the ball, but to no avail as the score advanced to 5-0 and then 6-0. Stefan headed the ball off the line and Steven produced some excellent saves and positive calls. There was too much giving the ball away and kicking into space. Ryan forged through, but suffered bad luck when his resulting free kick just sailed over the bar. Josh and Ben tried their best in defence and Stuart later in centre midfield, but soon the quick paced Sissinghurst made it 7-0 and then 8-0. Players were once again switched and substituted to stem the tide, but the goals kept coming. FINAL SCORE: 9-0.
Man of the Match: Lee Davenport
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), Ryan Morrissey (sub 2nd half Stuart Geeves), Ben Wells, Steven Sutcliffe, Stefan Sime, Jonathan Stamp (sub 2nd half Joe Clarke), Scott Hayes (sub 2nd half David Powley), Joe Clarke (sub 2nd half James Capon), Lee Davenport, Stuart Geeves (sub 2nd half Conal O’Hara), Joe Bartram (sub 2nd half Scott Hayes)
Not Available: Leo Bates (injured); Matt Tring
Post Mortem: Colts knew this would be a hard game as Sissinghurst are an excellent team who are top of the table and are very fast and fit, but the boys were disappointed themselves at the large scoreline. It was clear that they had not put in as much consistent effort as they had last week. There were several chances to score today, but again no shots made the target. The ball was given away too much and although there were some positive moves off the ball, the person with the ball often did not look up and kept passing to the opposition who then scored a lot of good goals. Thankfully, Steven produced some fine saves to keep the score in single figures. The MOM this week went to the player who battled consistently hard and who used the ball well today – Lee. |

First Half: As anticipated, 1st Division Borough Green were strong from the outset and soon went 0-1 up, quickly followed by another goal 0-2. They took advantage of Colts not getting first to the ball. Jonathan then made the first of many fine runs down the wing, but unfortunately, he slipped as he tried to place the cross. The score crept up 0-3 and then 0-4 as Colts did not push up enough, or kept missing their tackles. Then Jonathan finally broke onto the score sheet with a much needed goal for Colts 1-4. Unfortunately, another goal followed for Borough Green as Colts did not clear the ball 1-5. Then there were gasps as Lee scored an excellent goal with a fantastic strike out from the wing, which went over everyone’s heads and into the top corner of the net 2-5. Our 2 goals boosted Colts as they showed what they are capable of in the last 10 minutes of this half. There were some displays of good football and Colts were unlucky not to take advantage of play at times. James kept trying hard to drive the ball forward. Joe B endeavoured to push the ball through and David tried to battle through nearer the goal. Good team play from Stefan and Jonathan led to Joe C who took his chance and made it 3-5. Although Colts had given away the first 3 goals, they proved that they can do it, even against a better team.
Second Half: Borough Green had been rattled and they fought back immediately scoring three goals in quick succession 3-8. Steven produced some excellent saves and bravely came out of goal on several occasions. Another goal followed for Borough Green as they outpaced Colts 3-9. However, Matt, Conal, Stuart and Scott provided fresh impetus and battled hard, and Ryan returned to his old battling self. Unfortunately, Borough Green made it double figures 3-10. Steven came out of goal. Ben, Stefan, Josh and James were kept busy by the Borough Green attack. As a result of hard battling, Ben came off with an injured shin. There was little play our end so Colts had few chances to attack their goal. However, the game ended well for Colts when, on the final whistle with literally seconds to go, Matt headed the ball in to make it 4-10. FINAL SCORE: 4-10.
Man of the Match: Jonathan Stamp
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), Ryan Morrissey, Ben Wells, Steven Sutcliffe, Stefan Sime, Jonathan Stamp, Joe Clarke (2nd half sub Matt Tring), Joe Bartram (2nd half sub Conal O’Hara), Lee Davenport (2nd half sub Stuart Geeves), David Powley (2nd half sub Scott Hayes), James Capon
Not available: Leo Bates (injured)
Post Mortem: As predicated, this was a very hard, fast game, and in the first half, the boys gave goals away. However, in the last 10 minutes of that half, they raised their game, showed what they can do and scored some good goals to end their goal famine. However, in the second half, they did not concentrate, did not apply enough pressure, and did not press on Borough Green’s defence. However, Colts did play well at times and put effort in and they knew the game would be a struggle. Encouragingly, they scored 4 goals in this match. MOM this week goes to the player who made a lot of runs and who covered the pitch well by doing so. MOM Jonathan “Stampie” Stamp. |

The teams held a Minute Silence to mark the death of football legend George Best.
First Half – Colts immediately attacked the goal, but missed their first chance when some players stood routed to the grass! Suddenly, teamwork came to the fore and Joe B, David and Stuart were unlucky not to find the target. Conal attacked well up and down the wing. David had another shot, which sailed over. Matt, Joe C and Joe B won the majority of the balls, and soon Colts went 0-1 up as David found the back of the net. He hit the post again soon after. Ben battled hard in defence and managed to move up the pitch with confidence. Lee pumped the ball through and drove it on. Stefan produced some big, accurate kicks deep into the midfield and down the wing. Josh proved an able backstop when the ball started advancing towards Colts goal. David then scored again 0-2 with his left foot and then he almost had a hat-trick. Team play increased and enabled Joe C to score 0-3. The defence continued to cover each other well. Stuart was unlucky not to get a strong header into the back of the net. Conal also had a go and the Lenham keeper did well to save the shot. Steven was reduced to the unusual role of spectator.
Second half – Again, Colts attacked strongly. Joe C cut out several goal kicks with his head. Joe B was unlucky to just miss the target. Ryan then chased back hard, which helped Jonathan produce one of his runs and he scored 0-4. Lee had a shot from outside the area which just went over the bar. Suddenly, Steven was called into action 15 minutes into this half when he produced a great save. Ryan assumed the role of Captain when Josh was substituted. Ben, Stefan and Lee continued to cut the ball out when it came down their end. Ryan did some excellent corner kicks and Jonathan continued to run hard and pass accurately. Lenham then had a rush and hit the bar and there were several minutes when Colts suffered disarray and almost paid the price. However, Steven showed his concentration, despite being frozen, and produced two great saves. Colts had let their guard down and become too casual. Then they quickly rallied, desperate to maintain a rare clean sheet. Jonathan re-gained the momentum and scored a lovely goal 0-5. Then Conal, who had come forward and had several attempts, made it 0-6. David and Jonathan tried in vain to achieve their hat-tricks. Ryan was unlucky when his header went over the bar and then he hit the bar again. As the ball came out and he went for the rebound, the whistle went and a penalty was awarded to Colts due to the Lenham keeper being penalised for swearing. Stuart strode up and hit the ball sweetly with a well placed kick into the top right-hand corner of the net. FINAL SCORE: 0-7.
Man of the Match: Conal O’Hara

Post Mortem: This was a great performance. The boys took their chances and converted their shots, the defence pushed up, everyone struck the ball with accuracy, looking up, making space, anticipating, and calling each other. All 13 players were focused on winning and it showed with the strength of play and attitude. Everyone put in a lot of effort. Special thanks went to Steven for maintaining his concentration despite the freezing cold and inactivity his end, and to everyone for playing so well. MOM today went to the player who performed exceptionally well in all areas of play – Conal. |

First Half: Colts kicked off with immediate determination and focus. When SPR won the first corner, Colts cleared the ball and good team play resulted in Conal providing a great cross into the middle of the area, from which David scored an excellent goal 0-1. The marker had been laid down for the match. Colts mounted their attacks and when SPR responded, the defence had the situation well covered. Conal crossed the ball well and Ryan produced first class corners throughout the match and took charge in midfield. Stuart was unlucky that his shot went over the bar. Ryan put a corner in and the ball almost found the back of the net, but not quite – just wide. Another good corner from Ryan, and Stuart let off a cracking shot into the goal 0-2. When SPR advanced, all the defenders used the ball and their bodies well to keep SPR at bay. Ben did some excellent clearances, Lee provided solid support, Josh blocked the ball and Stefan covered consistently well and used the wing. The ball came out to the midfield to Joe and then Jonathan, who flicked through to David, who did a great pass to Stuart – bang 0-3. Confidence grew and Stuart quickly achieved his hat-trick as he lifted the ball over and straight into the goal 0-4. Joe and Jonathan showed great movement in midfield. Stefan kicked the ball accurately down the wing and each time found Conal who then took off towards goal, driving the ball forward. Lee tackled hard and pushed the ball onwards and made himself known wherever he went. Colts continued to go for goal with several shots from David just off target. Then Colts got complacent: SPR pulled one back 1-4. Colts re-grouped. Conal crossed the ball superbly, Jonathan miss-hit it, but David whacked in the rebound to make it 1-5. Steven was very assured in goal whenever SPR managed to break through and he struck his drop kicks well into the centre half to start the attacks. Ryan had 2 big strikes, one of which came off the keeper and one off the post.
Second Half: Scott made his presence known straightaway as he shot on goal, but the SPR keeper managed to block the attempt. Then complacency set in again. SPR scored a super goal from a free kick 2-5. Colts continued to drop the pace and were punished as SPR scored 3-5. Steven concentrated hard and produced some quality saves as SPR came back into the match fighting. Then Colts rallied and started playing as a team again. Josh produced his trademark massive throw-ins and marshalled his team. Lee was like a rock in defence, with Ben and Stefan continuing to link well with the wingers down both sides. James started muscling in and when Ryan hit one of his superb corners, James went in and scored 3-6. SPR then had a goal disallowed as the player interfered with play. Scott, Jonathan and James were unlucky and Lee was not far off the target from way out on the pitch. The defence continued to land their kicks deep into the midfield. Jonathan got his reward by scoring a lovely goal, which hit the top right hand corner of the net 3-7. Colts continued aiming for goal right up to the final whistle. FINAL SCORE: 3-7.
Man of the Match: Ryan Morrissey
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), Steven Sutcliffe, Ben Wells, Stefan Sime, Lee Davenport, David Powley (sub 2nd half Stuart Geeves), Joe Bartram (sub 2nd half James Capon), Ryan Morrissey, Stuart Geeves (sub 2nd half Scott Hayes), Conal O’Hara (sub 2nd half Joe Bartram), Jonathan Stamp
Not Available: Leo Bates; Matt Tring; Joe Clarke
Post Mortem: This was a fantastic game for Colts, particularly the first half when they played some really dynamic football, with set pieces coming into their game. The team let things lapse a little during the second half hence why SPR managed to pull 2 goals back. However, they did not allow SPR back in the game for long. It was obvious that every player had put in 100% effort as all were tired and plastered in mud! It was also noted that the strikers scored most of the goals today rather than the midfield. David W congratulated each player personally in his debrief. His only criticism was that they must get on the end of Ryan’s corners and convert them into goals, especially the clear headers. MOM for his accurate corners and industry in midfield: Ryan. |

First Half – Both teams were evenly matched at the start and eager to gain control. Colts had several chances from corners, but could not get their heads on the ball. Stefan cleared 2 hard shots in quick succession from Holtwood on the line. However, within minutes, Holtwood went 1-0 up. From then on, they kept making a break for goal. They scored again 2-0 with their fast runner getting behind Colts defence, after the midfield proved sloppy on the ball. Scott tried, but just could not get through; it was the same for Stuart. However, Matt tackled hard and passed well, and Jonathan produced some good runs and was unlucky not to score.
Second Half – Colts played a lot harder on their opponents in this half. Lee, in particular, came in with some accurate hard tackles. Unfortunately, Holtwood hit the target again 3-0. Soon though, Jonathan got one back 3-1. Stefan cleared another strong shot off the line and Steven produced some fine saves in quick succession off shots from the same Holtwood player. However, the score crept up to 4-1. Stuart tried, but just could not break through. Joe C was in the thick of the action, as was James, especially on the wing. Joe B went back on as Joe C came off with a knee injury. Matt showed consistent tackling and good passing. Ryan produced his customary accurate corners and Josh and Ben kicked deep into the midfield. Conal battled in midfield and sent through good passes, alongside Joe B who pushed hard and tackled well this half. Stuart and Ryan got close, but were unlucky not to hit target. Holtwood scored again 5-1. Stefan cleared and Steven gathered another accurate Holtwood shot near the end. Alas, despite the defence battling and James making a surging run across the pitch and goal, Holtwood scored again 6-1. FINAL SCORE: 6-1.
Man of the Match: Matthew Tring
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), (2nd half sub Conal O’Hara), Steven Sutcliffe, Ben Wells, Stefan Sime, Lee Davenport, Ryan Morrissey, Jonathan Stamp, Matt Tring, Stuart Geeves (2nd half sub Scott Hayes), Joe Bartram (1st half sub James Capon), Scott Hayes (1st half sub Joe Clarke), Joe Clarke (2nd half sub Joe Bartram)
Not Available: Leo Bates; David Powley
Post Mortem: Colts did not deserve this scoreline, although they had made it more difficult for themselves by not battling hard enough as a team in the first half. Also, Holtwood put away their chances whereas our strikers did not score, missing clear chances and open goals. On a positive note, everyone put a lot of effort in, especially during the second half, on a pitch that was hard to play on. However, the boys agreed that they should have won this match. There were several notable contributions – Stefan with his clearances, Steven’s saves and gathering, MOM: Matt Tring. |

1st Half – Colts started well against the wind and played some good football. The game was evenly matched, with action end to end. Joe and Ryan had some early shots on goal and Ryan provided accurate corner kicks. James and Conal put their tackles in and Jonathan was unlucky for his header to miss the target. However, BGC got closer, despite the efforts of all 4 defenders. Then BGC were awarded a penalty 1-0! Fired up, Josh put in some good tackles and chasing back efforts, whilst Lee came in hard with his tackles. Ryan, Steven and Conal drove the ball through the midfield. Stefan and Lee proved able interceptors and Leo produced an important save and also came out to positively gather the ball from the feet of BGC, showing that absence through injury had not dented his confidence. Alas, although Colts battled hard and played some exciting football, the ball was continually given away when it reached our end. As much as Stuart and Joe tried, the ball just would not hit the back of the net.
2nd Half – Colts immediately started to attack, with Stefan and James passing accurate balls down the wing and providing steady back up when needed. Lee and Josh cleared the ball deep into the midfield for Conal, Ryan, Steven and Jonathan to collect and pass to Stuart and Joe. Leo stopped any shots that did make it past our back 4. BGC almost scored and then Joe slid through and took advantage of the BGC’s goalie’s slipped ball and equalised 1-1. James continually came in hard to win the ball and Steven worked tirelessly to get it back from the opposition and also firmly connecting with the BGC goal kicks. Colts did momentarily lose concentration and seemed to scatter resulting in BGC scoring 2-1. Colts either missed their chances to score, or were plain unlucky. Joe was “taken out”, but with no subs available, he battled on. Conal made a great run down the field and Joe collected the ball to shoot and scored 2-2. Everyone battled with determination to win. Stefan kicked a lovely ball through to Jonathan who worked his way down midfield to shoot straight in 3-2. Jonathan had another shot soon after, but was unlucky. Tension rose as Colts battled to maintain their lead. Leo made another crucial block, which Josh cleared. Stefan also cleared the ball, having fallen over and collected the ball with his feet as he fell and flicked it on to Lee. Lee had his customary go from just inside our half. His shot just went over the top of the bar. Stuart too tried hard to hit the target. Further good play down the pitch resulted in Ryan placing a well aimed shot into the net 4-2. Colts continued fighting to the whistle. FINAL SCORE: 4-2.
Man of the Match: Stefan Sime
Played: Josh Hazelwood (Captain), Leo Bates, Steven Sutcliffe, Stefan Sime, Lee Davenport, Ryan Morrissey, Jonathan Stamp, Stuart Geeves, James Capon, Joe Clarke, Conal O’Hara
Not Available: Ben Wells; David Powley; Matt Tring; Joe Bartram
NB Scott Hayes has left the team
Post Mortem: it was such a good feeling to win, especially as Colts came back twice from behind. BGC were out-played, particularly in the 2nd half. Everyone deserved a mention and each player could have won MOM for excellent tackles, chasing back, covering, keeping the momentum going with fluid play, scoring, accuracy, saving shots, team play – this game had it all – but MOM today went to Stefan for his tackles, clearances, linking up, covering and simply plugging away to the end. MOM: Stefan. |

1st Half – Hollingbourne attacked immediately and pressed quickly towards their goal and Leo had to make 2 saves early on. However, several breaks followed and Jonathan was unlucky with his first shot. Soon though, the midfield did not stop Hollingbourne running at them and the home team went 1-0 up. The defence had found themselves having to do their jobs and also cover the midfield, thus leaving the team exposed at the back. Colts then rallied and Josh and Lee made some effective runs and interceptions as the defence pushed up the pitch. Ryan curled a free kick into the box and Joe C was unlucky to see his strong header tipped over the bar. Steven strived hard for the ball, Jonathan made lots of runs, and 2 free kicks followed, but no goals. Then with his 3rd free kick, Ryan scored a superb goal over the Hollingbourne wall and into the top corner. 1-1. Jonathan had another go, but to no avail. Conal pushed through and passed the ball accurately. Then Joe C took his chance and scored from a tight angle. 1-2. Stuart did some good lay-offs and Leo made another 2 important saves at the end of the half, including a spill, which he managed to grab just in time, much to the relief of the team and the supporters!
2nd Half – Hollingbourne came out strong, but Colts had heeded advice and started to win the ball and pass it accurately rather than kicking it into space and to their opponents. There was a better build up of play during this half. Lee played well in defence and later on in midfield and made his presence felt in both roles. James read the game accurately and provided good defensive support and cover down one wing whilst Stefan kicked the ball deep and intercepted accurately down the other side. Ryan cleared a shot from the line and David also cleared from inside the box. James recovered a situation by putting the Hollingbourne striker off his pace and enabled Leo to gather the ball out of danger. Colts had a period of fragmentation, but luckily, Hollingbourne kept missing the target. Joe B suddenly made his presence felt and tackled well, and he did a great run, passed to Joe C, but unfortunately, the ball did not go far enough and the keeper intercepted the shot. The ball then went straight up the other end, but Hollingbourne missed again. Excitement mounted as Colts fought to maintain their slender lead. Ben, Stefan, Josh and James maintained a strong defensive line. Lee continued to provide an effective link up the field, with his customary hard tackles and this enabled Colts to push up and for Joe B and Jonathan to work their way towards goal and they and Stuart were unlucky not to score. Suddenly, Hollingbourne were awarded a penalty in the last 3 minutes, but the penalty taker shot wide. Colts battled for the dying seconds of the match, determined to secure victory. FINAL SCORE: 1-2.
Man of the Match: Leo Bates
Played: Lee Davenport (Captain), Leo Bates, Josh Hazelwood, Stefan Sime, James Capon, Steven Sutcliffe (2nd half sub Joe Bartram), Ryan Morrissey, Jonathan Stamp, Stuart Geeves (2nd half sub Ben Wells), Joe Clarke, Conal O’Hara (2nd half sub David Powley), David Powley (2nd half sub Stuart Geeves)
Not Available: Matt Tring
Post Mortem: This was a tough game against a faster team, but Colts battled hard and everyone put a lot of effort in and whilst we struggled at times, the boys played well and deserved their win. All played well: the defence defending and covering, the midfield got their act together in the 2nd half, and the strikers kept trying. Ryan and Joe C scored two cracking goals. However, MOM today goes to Leo who has made a confident comeback after his lay-off with injury. MOM: Leo. |

1st Half – Colts attacked from the start on the very soggy pitch and scored early. Josh launched an excellent throw, which Joe collected and shot towards goal 1-0. The boys linked up with each other and played as a team. Joe had another shot, but this time, the SPR keeper saved it. Steven and Stuart were both unlucky not to hit target. Steven and Josh intercepted well and the team produced good attacking football, with Joe, Jonathan and Ryan driving forward. Suddenly, Josh charged forward and hit an excellent lob over the head of the keeper to make it 2-0. Ryan had a shot land just over the bar, and another was saved by the keeper. Stefan, Ben and Lee marshalled the defence and kicked well struck balls into the midfield. SPR did have a few breakthroughs when Colts reduced their pace, but the defence and Leo kept them at bay, or they missed their target. A chance fell to Stuart and he finished off nicely and made it 3-0. Jonathan kept tackling and working tirelessly on the attack. Steven produced a great shot, which the keeper again saved. Conal worked hard all over the pitch as he strived to get close to goal. Ben and Josh kept driving the ball forward whilst Stefan and Lee stayed back to cope with any breaks. Colts played with maximum effort and created lots of chances. Their passing and tackles were made to good effect this half.
2nd Half – Colts took on board the advice to kick the balls wide to the wings as well as down the middle, to use the angles for shots, and to allow for the soggy bounce of the ball in the mud, to take their time, and for everyone to concentrate 100%. The advice soon paid off! SPR came out attacking, but Colts coped and soon settled down. Conal cleared a SPR corner and really started to push through with his challenges and tackles. Colts were then awarded a penalty, which Stuart coolly took and placed well to make it 4-0. Jonathan quickly ran through and kicked up and in, 5-0. Matt settled in quickly on the tackling scene. He played a lovely ball through to Joe who hit the target again 6-0. Conal then went on a goal spree as he made it 7-0. Action picked up both ends as SPR took any chance given to advance. Stefan and Lee went into interceptor mode and Josh and Ben were mobile blocks. Colts kept tight as a team and the score advanced. Conal went on a charge and caught a ricochet to make it 8-0 and then achieved his hat-trick by quickly scoring again 9-0. Joe was very ambitious as he made a huge run from the half way line, but the keeper saved the shot. Leo did not have much to do during this match, but when he was called upon, he gathered the ball out of danger and he produced some strong and accurate goal kicks to get the attack under way. Steven, Ryan, Jonathan and Matt kept plugging away. Stefan and Lee continued to stay back to cover, allowing Ben to advance out of defence with Josh. Ben’s kicks were solid and at one point, he came through and also had a crack at goal! Finally, Conal was not content with a hat-trick! He continued his rampage by turning poacher to make it a magnificent 10-0, and to complete the action, Stuart almost made it 11, but just missed the spill from the keeper and the ball spun out of play as he tried to nudge it back in. Everyone battled to the end. FINAL SCORE: 10-0.
Man of the Match: Conal O’Hara
Played: Lee Davenport (Captain), Leo Bates, Josh Hazelwood, Stefan Sime, Ben Wells, Steven Sutcliffe (2nd half sub Ryan Morrissey), Ryan Morrissey (2nd half sub Matt Tring), Jonathan Stamp, Stuart Geeves, Joe Clarke (2nd half sub Steven Sutcliffe), Conal O’Hara

PM: Colts played fantastic football as a team. There were plenty of goals, accurate finishing and a clean sheet. The defence defended well, the midfield passed the ball well, the strikers took their chances and Leo gathered any balls that did get through. Everyone played superbly and deserved a mention. Congratulations team. However, MOM today went to the player who scored 4 goals and who simply kept on attacking and getting through to the other end. MOM: Conal. |

1st Half – There was plenty of action immediately as WK kicked off in attack mode and Steven was called upon to make 3 early successive saves. Colts made a few solid build-ups in play and Joe and Stuart were unlucky with their first attempts at goal. They tried really hard, but to no avail. The team defended a WK free kick competently, with Ryan clearing the ball away from the wall. Conal tackled well and linked up with Joe and Jonathan, who both went up several times into the box. WK applied pressure and Colts responded by bringing themselves together and producing good movement of play in the middle. Josh and Ben pumped long balls down the field. Steven and Ben then saved another shot between them, but soon WK went 0-1 up. James made a strong run through, but no one got on the end of his pass. WK scored again 0-2 and then again 0-3 as Colts did not get their tackles in, the defence went into disarray and the midfield became static. Added to that, the strikers could not score. Each first half goal was effectively given away because the majority of the team did not tackle properly, nor make enough effort to challenge, or the ball was not passed accurately, or controlled.
2nd Half – Colts came out much more positively and strongly, going straight in on the attack. Alas, WK still made it 0-4. Lee played particularly hard and marshalled the team from the defence or midfield according to substitution changes of position. Steven made several more important saves. Stefan and James kicked deep and made better use of the wings this half and moved up the pitch more frequently. However, WK scored again 0-5. Finally, Colts hard work paid off when Lee suddenly charged through and hit a hard, well aimed shot over the WK keeper into the goal 1-5. At last! Good build up continued from Colts and they were rewarded again when David provided an excellent cross over to Ryan who converted it into a great goal 2-5. Things began to look up as Colts clearly raised their game and achieved those 2 goals. Matt and Jonathan worked hard in midfield and tackled well. David continued to chip in some good crosses and Ryan provided his customary accurate corners, but unfortunately, no one could get in on the end of them to score. Stuart returned on pitch, but fresh legs still did not help Colts cause and there were few oppor | |
