3 Training Match Friendly Home 8 - 1 Won

Our first run out of the season at Coxheath Village Hall in a training match after a few training exercises.

10 Wateringbury Boys League Away 2 - 5 Lost

The first league match of the season found us away to Wateringbury on a very hot morning. We fell behind to a quick goal but soon equalised with a shot from Sam after a throw in.

Wateringbury were better at passing the ball than us, though we had a couple of encouraging breaks. We did not clear or pass the ball as well as we could, resulting in us being under pressure for a lot of the time. At half time we were 5 -1 down, though in the second half rallied and Sam pulled another goal back.

We made the better chances in the second half which gives some encouragement for next week.

17 Burham League Home 4 - 2 Won

Our first home match of the season, at a new pitch for us, was against Burham, the team at the bottom of the league last season without a win.

This season their side has been transformed to a side playing to their strengths of quick breaks, and after a defensive mix up we fell behind. We increased the tempo and our passing game soon created some chances the first scoring from direct running by Sam. He later added a second after some good play on the right.

Though they had several chances from their quick breaks overall we had the better of the play. Ben (B-S) collected the ball on the edge of the area and advanced on goal, being fouled brought down from behind he slipped the ball to Sam, the referee played the advantage and Sam scored for his hat trick.

In the second half Burham pulled another back but we closed the game down, playing largely in their half, shortly before the end after winning some corners Ben Fagg secured the points with a close range finish.

October
1 Loose Lions League Away 2 - 4 Lost

A breezy day did not make conditions easy against a side high in the division. Our defenders were more resolute than of late and put on a solid show. Despite this Loose were lucky to score from a quick break, though we quickly equalised, after a good passing interchange on the right of midfield found Sam who picked his spot. Shortly before half time Loose regained the lead at the second attempt despite a goal line clearance. In the second half we continued with good moves and though losing two more goals we enjoyed most of the possession. Our second goal came from a good spell of play with a close range spin and shot on the turn from Ben B-S who placed the ball out of reach of the keeper and just inside the post. Overall a vast improvement in team performance.

15 Kings Hill League Home 3 - 7 Lost

Our second home match of the season found us against a side who we have beaten for the last 3 years, but their improvement was noticeable when we fell behind. A long range looping effort brought Ross his first goal of the season and our equaliser after a good spell of play. Defensive nerves gave away a free kick just outside our box and though Steven got hands to the ball it unfortunately crossed the line, another goal soon followed and we went into the break 3-1 down. Our game improved early in the second half and Sam scored after a receiving a good pass and run through the defence. More opportunities followed and Jamie equalised, though it was not all one way traffic as Steven had several good saves to make when isolated.

Overall our second half play was the better and we pressed strongly for a winner, this became our undoing as we were left exposed at the back. In an attempt to draw level we continued to push on and some late goals saw kings Hill home and a score line that did not reflect the equality of the teams.

November
5 Staplehurst Monarchs League Home 1 - 12 Lost

Our first competitive match for 3 weeks found us entertaining the league leaders, who soon showed us why they were top of the table with some clinical striking. We were soon three down but then Sam brought us back into the game with a terrific goal volleying on the turn into Staplehurst's far top corner. In the second half we had several opportunities to score but did not after several close attempts. It was encouraging that we continued to press throughout the game , trying until the end. Ross was named our man of the match after a gritty performance at left back.
